DO YOU KNOW A CHILD WHO COULD BENEFIT FROM HAVING A MENTOR?

A Mentor is an additional caring adult in a child’s life who can provide them with support, encouragement, and expand possibilities. Since 1995, Moore Buddies Mentoring has worked with our community partners to match thousands of students with adult mentors.

There are a number of reasons why having a mentor can be an enriching experience for a young person. They may be struggling academically, live in a single-parent household, need a self-esteem boost, or have had recent death or illness in the family. One-on-one attention from a mentor allows them to feel special, have someone outside of the family to talk to, enjoy new experiences, and learn new things. Studies have shown that children and teenagers benefit from having a positive adult role model in their lives in addition to their parents.

Moore Buddies Mentors work with young people who are between the ages of 6 and 17 and face many challenges. Our mentors will help your child set and meet goals, stand up to peer pressure, make good choices, and gain self-confidence. Safety is our number one priority for your child. All of our Moore Buddies Mentors are thoroughly screened and trained before meeting with a child. You can choose to enroll your child in any of the following programs: Community Mentoring or In-School Mentoring.

In-School Mentoring

Our In-School Mentoring Program is currently being offered to students at Southern Middle School and Southern Primary in Aberdeen, North Carolina. We have also expanded to Crain's Creek Middle School and West Pine Middle. This program has greatly impacted the individual students and the school as a whole. Students who are involved in this mentoring program:

  • explore careers

  • get academic assistance

  • complete community service projects

  • take educational field trips

  • attend summer camps

  • participate in community events

  • meet with a mentor for 1 hour each week

Community Mentoring

Our Community Mentoring Program is dedicated to the youth in Moore County who are at risk of not reaching their full potential due to various factors. Youth who are in need of a positive adult role model, close monitoring of school, home, and community behavior, as well as opportunities to learn social, recreational, vocational, and educational skills can benefit from our program. The Community Mentoring Program matches adult volunteers who are willing to give their time, energy, and compassion to a Moore County youth for one year. Goals for the program include:

  • building self-esteem and confidence

  • goal setting

  • encouraging students to be academically successful
