One-on-One Adult Tutoring
The majority of Moore County Literacy Council adult students enter at third-grade level or less. In our one-on-one tutoring program, we teach basic life and literacy skills to adults, 18 and over. Students are given a placement test, log 6 hours of independent computer learning time, then are matched with a ProLiteracy trained volunteer tutor. Pairs meet once a week for a minimum of 1.5 hours of instructional time. Progress is evaluated and monitored by the tutor and staff. A variety of instructional techniques may be used based on students learning strengths.
We offer a variety of free programs that serve low-literacy adults 18 and older in the areas of:
Literacy – Adult Basic Education (ABE) and
English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
Citizenship
GED preparation
Career readiness
Computer skills
